Jonesboro:  Shelters & Services for Evacuees

Both Mayor Formon and Judge Haas, in a effort to prepare for the possible arrival of Katrina evacuees, authorized Police, Sheriff, Fire, 911, and the Community & Economic Dev. Depart. to "do whatever is necessary to care for those who seek refuge in our City."  Our citizens rallied: A one stop service facility of service providers was established (see below for details).  All medical providers banded together to provide a 24 hour hotline - answered by RN's.  Over 2,000 of our Northeast Arkansas citizens took the Red Cross Volunteer certification course in order to serve in any capacity needed.  Donation & distribution centers sprang up all over the City of Jonesboro and all of Northeast Arkansas .  The outpouring of caring is tremendous as we help those in our care in every way we possibly can.
